MESSAGE FROM LAURIE YARBROUGH, CITY OFCHARLESTON RECREATION DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR

It is with great excitement and pride that the City of Charleston will celebrate the re-opening of the Maybank Tennis Centeron Friday, October 19th.  Please come out and join the Honorable Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr, at the ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 6pm and stay for some great tennis by the Charleston Pro Tennis League and food and drinks.  We appreciate everyone’s patience as members have been displaced since early June but I believe that you will agree that Maybank is now one of the finest facilities in the Lowcountry.   In anticipation of the re-opening we gathered a committee of members and put together a survey to see what the members recommended in regards to how to use the courts.  There were many comments and suggestions but it seems that the majority of the members like the facility the way it is – a first come, first serve tennis center.  We will continue this tradition with the exception of scheduled matches, round robins, tournaments, and school matches.  The only difference will be that our two (2) new additional clay courts – we will now have a total of five (5) clay courts – may be reserved for use.  Everyone is hopeful that this will allow more members more opportunities to use the courts.
